Designing a Calm Dining Space

Bringing light, material, and proportion together.

Oakvello Studio

A calm dining room is less about decoration and more about balance. Start with the table and let everything else follow.

Size the table to the room

Allow roughly 90cm between the table edge and walls or furniture so chairs move freely.

Layer the light

A pendant over the table creates a gathering point. Softer lamps elsewhere keep evenings relaxed.

Limit the palette

One or two timbers, natural textiles, and a restrained colour palette help the room feel settled.
